Nicole is an amazing educator who has done more to promote a culture of safety in pediatrics than anyone gives her credit for.
Nicole is an extremely dedicated educator for the PICU and inpatient pediatrics. She believes patients come first no matter what and she is willing to do whatever it takes to keep patients safe. After receiving texts and calls from the staff that a critically ill patient was being admitted from the ED and there was not enough staff to care for the patient, she made the decision to come in on her day off to take a patient assignment. She has done this numerous times and constantly tells staff, "I live 5 minutes away so please call me if you need anything" and she actually means it! When anything critical happens in pediatrics, she is there. She will jump in and help no matter the situation and she thinks nothing of staying beyond her hours if any emergency arises. Nicole does all this, knowing there will be no extra compensation for her actions because she cares deeply for the patients and for the staff.
Additionally, Nicole is an amazing educator who has done more to promote a culture of safety in pediatrics than anyone gives her credit for. She updates the staff on all safety concerns, reviews metrics to see where improvement is needed, onboards new staff, teaches PALS and BLS, and she is heavily involved in hospital committees and Solutions for Patient Safety, which is an international collaborative of pediatric hospitals that collects and shares data to improve safety and care for pediatric patients. Nicole writes policies and even organized a pediatric critical care symposium that was offered to everyone in the hospital. Most patients and their families probably wouldn't even know that Nicole is not a "bedside" nurse because she spends so much time interacting with them and ensuring that they are receiving excellent care. She is also the first person to give a shout out to the staff when they go above and beyond. I can honestly say that I would put my children's lives in her hands and I know they would get the best care imaginable. She is kind, caring, and incredibly knowledgeable and she truly exemplifies what it means to be a nurse!
