Joe stands out for his exceptional bedside manner and the compassion he provides for the patient and family. Joe is a true professional. He always came in at the start of his shift to introduce himself. He provided a brief rundown on the patient's current status and confirmed it was correct with the patient and me as her family member. Then he would proceed to check for pain and any requests that my mother as the patient had in addition to any requests I had on her behalf. Most of the nurses did this at change over. It was the way Joe did it. He somehow makes it feel personal and always with a positive air. I know he eased my mother's fear of being alone in the hospital at night and held her hand until she could get back to sleep. I know that’s a simple example and Joe did so much more. However, sometimes the simplest gestures have the greatest impact.
