My mom came into the emergency department and she was admitted to the acute care area the following day. She was released from the hospital after four days. My mom is elderly and has some cognitive issues. She has always told us she does not want to be in the hospital, but she had an infection and needed care. She was a difficult patient and unfortunately, Joe really saw her at her worst. Joe told us it was a combination of being in the hospital, fighting an infection, and some cognitive issues. This patient was NOT who my mom is when she is at home, but the combination of things made her fight and try to get out of bed on multiple occasions, it was very distressing to see her act this way. Joe was always kind, professional, and took excellent care of my mom and I am extremely grateful. All the doctors and staff were wonderful, but Joe really stood out. He answered every question we had - we think Joe is just amazing and so deserving of this recognition. I have not had much occasion to interact with nurses but I came away thinking what angels these nurses and health care workers are, even when they see the worst in people. I am so grateful to everyone who cared for my mom.
