Julianna loves being a pediatric nurse and goes above and beyond to care for patients and families with empathy and family-centered care.
Julianna Cromwell is a nurse that so many staff, patients, and families across the entire organization have come to know, love and value. She is a very unique nurse in the hospital because she works as a casual nurse who is willing to work absolutely anywhere in the building that could use her help. She has gained pediatric experience as an RN at SickKids for over 20 years and although 5C has always been her home base she has worked all across the whole hospital.

This past year and a half have been a great example of Julianna’s flexibility and skill as she has supported countless clinical areas, often with little notice. She is always happy to come in and work and help out and always does it with a smile on her face. Relieving or working on units that are not a familiar comfort is not something most nurses love to do, but Julianna has found ways to tap into her expert clinical knowledge and use the tools in the hospital such as policies and procedures and unit guidelines, and clinical team members to her advantage. She is a nurse that all managers, CHS Administrators and Charge Nurses know by name and have come to greatly appreciate.

So many patients and families have benefitted from Julianna’s care since she is often called into units that are short-staffed or have unplanned changes in census or acuity. She is regarded as a “lifesaver” in terms of staffing and her consistently positive and upbeat attitude about coming into work and having the chance to help out is always a breath of fresh air in our challenging clinical environments.

Julianna loves being a pediatric nurse and goes above and beyond to care for patients and families with empathy and family-centered care. Julianna does not always get an opportunity to develop long term relationships with all the patients and families she cares for due to the nature of how she ‘floats’ around the building, but her important impact is evident from the comments that are shared by patients and families for whom Julianna cares for during only one shift or a couple of shifts.

During the pandemic, Julianna also made herself available to work in new areas such as the Screening and Access Management Team. This was a new area for her and many others and she stood up to the challenge and tried to help during a challenging and uncertain time. Also, during many staff nursing shortages in the clinical areas during the pandemic Julianna was called into work. As a causal nurse, she has often been working full-time hours and this is a credit to her amazing skill, flexibility, and talent as a nurse that all areas of the building are happy to book to provide exceptional care to their patients and families. Julianna stands out above the rest of the nurses in many ways and this nomination for her recognition was suggested by the entire clinical manager group to recognize Julianna and her great attitude and talent as one of our pediatric nurses.
