Sue even opted to stay in the room with our daughter and manually count her breaths in order to not give her any more sedation medication.
Sue currently works on the Pediatric Sedation Unit and is getting ready to celebrate her 40 year anniversary at Wesley Healthcare. During her 40 years of caring, she has touched many lives including the family who wrote the following:
Our 3-month-old baby girl had to have an MRI on her brain due to abnormalities with her eyes. Sue was our nurse in the Pediatric Sedation Unit. She took extra time with us and with our daughter explaining everything better than any nurse I have ever seen in my 20 years of working in the healthcare field. She was wonderful during the MRI but especially after we received the heartbreaking news that we couldn't take our baby girl home and were being admitted.
That’s when Sue's over and above “amazingness” was shown! Miss Sue became our cheerleader. She helped us to absorb the information and gave us a positive outlook on the next steps. We found out another test was ordered the next day that would require more sedation. To have your 3-month-old sedated 2 days in a row was heartbreaking, but knowing she was in the wonderful and trustworthy hands of Sue, made it so much more bearable.
Sue even opted to stay in the room with our daughter and manually count her breaths in order to not give her any more sedation medication. We were so relieved. We did not want our baby girl to get any more meds than necessary! There are absolutely no words to express how thankful we are to Sue.
My husband and I have been in the healthcare field for the majority of our careers. We know a good nurse when we see one, but to meet a nurse that went above and beyond with every task she did; to meet a nurse that truly advocated for her patient; to meet a nurse that proved how much she cares for her patients and their families, now that is a one in a million thing to find! I could tell you that Sue has talent because she nailed the IV on the first try and wrapped it in a way that the IV never moved during our stay, but that would just be great nursing abilities. I could tell you that she never, and I mean never, forgot to clean her hands before walking into our room, but that is just hospital protocol. I could tell you that Sue seemed to be overly prepared for anything that may occur while our daughter was in her care, but that is just a nurse that has done this a time or two.
What I want to get across with this nomination is truly how remarkable Sue was, not only as a nurse but as a human being! I hope Wesley knows how lucky they are to have her. I hope her coworkers know how blessed they are to not only work alongside Sue every day but to learn from Sue! Thank you, Sue, for the wonderful care you have provided at Wesley Medical Center – 40 years of caring – and the wonderful care you continue to provide to your patients and families every day!
