Rebecca Moore works here at Hilo Medical Center as our Stroke Coordinator. Rebecca is consistently going the extra mile to make sure that patients and family members who have just experienced one of the most stressful life events, of having a stroke, understand what is happening and why. I have watched her stand with patients' family members and comfort them in their times of need, holding their hands or offering a hug. She respectfully and compassionately educates the family on what is happening and what to expect and follows up with them every day to help them understand and feel comfortable. Rebecca is a fierce advocate for the patients in making sure that they are receiving the appropriate standards of care, and often coming in on her time off to help if needed. Behind the scenes, she is reaching out to the community in multiple different avenues, such as setting up booths at community events with education on stroke signs and symptoms. She reaches out to the children of the Big Island by doing in-school education on how to identify stroke and even created a radio commercial to reach as many people as possible. Rebecca makes sure that all of the nurses at Hilo Medical Center are educated on stroke and care of stroke patients by creating important and understandable education. Rebecca leads by example, and we are lucky to have her for us and our community.
