During their very scary first few days, Amy was a bright and shining light.
This nurse had a family that was suffering from awful news about their son. He was covered in burns and in pain. This nurse (like she always does) stopped everything to make sure this child was taken care of and loved on. She coordinated all of the doctors and made sure the family who is from another county felt secure and loved. The mother kept commenting on how Amy was treating her son like he was her own and she knew he was in good hands. During their very scary first few days, she was a bright and shining light. She did not leave the room and spent hours making sure his dressing changes were just right and that he was comfortable. She also explained step by step everything that was being done and why so that the child felt like he was part of the plan. She advocated and rallied for this family. She had to speak up and push the doctors to change up the pain plan and help this child persevere.

This is just one example of a day where this nurse went above and beyond. I could write you and say she is exceptional on this day, but the reality is that this nurse provides this type of care to EVERY single patient she touches. She makes sure that both patients and families know what to expect and how to advocate for their child. This nurse is the nurse you pray you have when you come into the PICU. She is compassionate and strong when parents need to fall apart and stands up for them when they cannot. She is one of the most amazing nurses I have ever had the pleasure of working with during my 18 years here at CHOA.
