In the past 2 months, I have had to take my 82 year old mother twice to Forbes Hospital for medical emergencies. On the last visit, my mother was transported by ambulance to the Emergency room. It was there that an absolutely incredible nurse by the name of Dick was put in charge of her care. I must say that I have met incredible nurses before but Dick, by far, was the most compassionate, kind professional nurse that I have ever met. From the start, Dick explained to my mother what types of tests were being done, what to expect and simply put her fears at ease since as you can imagine, she was scared and nervous as to what was happening to her. You could tell that Dick loves what he does and made sure that his patient was at the center of what he was doing for them. He had the utmost patience with my mother and they shared a few family stories which were very soothing to her and kept her mind occupied amidst all the uncertainty. Dick made sure she was comfortable at all times and kept us in the loop with respect to next steps. We were in the ER for approx 7 hours and during that time Dick did not stop. He ensured that ALL of his patients were attended to in the same way he cared for my mother. Multi-tasking with a great attitude MUST be his specialty. You have a real gem in Dick and I hope that in some way he will know what a difference he makes every day with every patient he touches.
