Emily has provided emotional support and encouragement to this patient as he embarks on a long journey to recovery and acceptance.
When I first started at Ranken Jordan as a CNA, Emily was one of my first preceptors. She was a role model for me from the very beginning. Not long after, I watched her transition from a CNA to an RN here after graduating from nursing school. Since then Emily has continued to inspire me in her compassion for the patients and dedication to their overall care. When it was my time to make the change to an RN at Ranken, I was lucky enough to get trained again by Emily. She taught me how to be an empathetic and diligent worker. I am unbelievably grateful for the skills that she has taught me while I began my nursing career. Emily is a known leader on the floor and encourages others to be their best every day. She has been such a great addition to our in-depth admission process and expanded her skills with educating patients and families upon discharge.
Watching Emily grow from a CNA to an RN and now to a specialized RN has been so inspirational. She is a well-rounded, respected, and intelligent nurse that I strive to compare to. Her leadership on the floor and ability to advocate for her patients and fellow staff members are more appreciated than words can describe. She is more than deserving of this award for so many reasons. As Emily is in the first few years of her career as well I am eager to see how much more she can achieve.

Emily continually goes above and beyond to meet the needs of her patients on the East Unit. Emily’s cheerful demeanor and happy-go-lucky attitude are contagious and you can't help but smile or laugh when working with her. Most recently, Emily has spent time getting to know a young adult patient who has experienced a life-altering injury. She has provided emotional support and encouragement to this patient as he embarks on a long journey to recovery and acceptance. She takes the extra time to get to know patients on a personal level while maintaining professional boundaries. She recently helped this particular patient in accessing the internet in order to purchase a gift for his girlfriend (a small gesture that goes a long way when we get busy with our day to day duties on the job). She makes an effort to provide encouraging words and support to this patient even when he is not on her assigned caseload for the day and a little check-in goes a long way for him. Emily is also an excellent team player and is more than willing to jump in to assist or collaborate to ensure all of the patients are receiving the best care.
