I would like to recognize Dina for her willingness to help and guide me during a difficult day, needless to say when I approached Dina, my day had just begun. She exemplified nurses helping one another when they are struggling. I have been feeling overwhelmed by the startup of the Silvestri Tower. The workspace is so vast and tasks are more challenging to accomplish due to the fact that the workplace landscape as we once knew it has been rearranged. This particular day I was completely overwhelmed, in retrospect I think I was having a panic attack. I felt myself amping up as I reviewed in my head the tasks at hand and didn’t know how I would accomplish or even start in a timely manner. It was a crushing feeling. I felt like I had no control. As I turned the corner, I saw Dina in her office. She was so approachable. I asked if she had a minute and she smiled and said “absolutely’. With that kind of reception, I felt like she was my lifeline pulling me out of the sinking ship I was on. I went on to explain what I was thinking and feeling and how overwhelmed I was. As nurses we don’t often own up to feeling overwhelmed we just keep on dutifully caring for others and neglecting ourselves. I guess I had reached my limit. Dina encouraged me to share with her. She then calmly and affirmatively said, “M, I’m going to help you”. These few words were so reassuring and nurturing. Dina helped me to de-escalate my anxiety that had such a grip on me. I was able to bring myself back into the moment. With a sigh of relief, I was able to go about my tasks at hand. Dina went on to find me a computer I could use for a Zoom council meeting as this was one of my concerns and saw to it that I was provided relief so I could attend my meeting. I am appreciative of Dina lending an open ear and a helping hand. It meant the world to me that day. Goes to show you the value of the human connection. This time I was on the receiving end. Thank you, Dina.
