Let me begin by saying that the care I received from everyone (doctor, nurses, check-in, registration, even those in food services) was stellar. If I ever need a hospital stay again, Retreat will be my first choice. I had a suprapubic simple prostatectomy and was discharged. Katie came on duty in the afternoon and remained on duty almost concurrent with my discharge around 12:30 pm.

Throughout that entire period, she was absolutely available to me, whether it was medication distribution, help with sitting in the chair, walking around the hall (5-6 laps at a time) getting into the bathroom, positioning me to eat comfortably, etc, etc. She was always there when I needed her with an encouraging word and a positive attitude. Several times, as I was dozing, I opened my eyes to see her quietly standing by the curtain just to be sure I was ok and comfortable. I think professional care reaches its apex when the provider checks all the professional boxes and then adds personal compassion and intent to the mix.

When I finally arrived in my room late at night (I think between 11p-12a), Katie was the nurse assigned to take care of me throughout the night. I cannot say enough good things about Katie. She was super pleasant and responsive and as pain med, after pain med failed to quell my pain, she was in prompt contact with the doctor to provide stronger meds for relief. Katie took the time to explain things to me and was simply delightful. Her positive approach really got me through a rough night. The physician visited me in the morning and chose to keep me a second night, and Katie attended to me that night with the same level of care and professionalism.
