In his scariest moment, he looked to Luz and grabbed her hand to hold.
Back in September, Luz and Landon were my grandfather’s primary nurses during his 3-week hospital stay battling covid. These nurses not only gave exceptional care, but also kept me in the loop 24/7. My paw paw spoke highly of these nurses. When they weren’t working, my grandfather would ask where they were and he was excited for them to come back to tell them of his accomplishments while they were gone. He spoke of their families highly as well, which let me know they took the time to talk with him and made him comfortable while I was unable to be there. When my grandfather had scary days, they both sat at his bedside with me and held his hand and calmed him when it was emotionally hard for me to do so. In his scariest moment, he looked to Luz and grabbed her hand to hold.

These nurses are what it means to be a nurse. As a nurse at this hospital myself, I strive to be like these two. Any patient in contact with them is a blessed patient. They don’t just sit by and watch, they put their heart and soul into nursing and into every patient. Even after my paw paw’s passing, they sent condolences and checked on my family daily. These two are so deserving of this award and so much more. The Medical Center is blessed to have these nurses as staff. They will never know the comfort they brought my family and me.
