Briana held their hand and cheered them along with all of their improvements.
As a new nurse, you sometimes feel like your coworkers think you have no clue what you are doing. It’s in those moments when someone's watching you do your craft that they realize you are actually very good at what you're doing. I have recently seen one of our new nurses blossom into an extremely capable and safe practicing nurse of a high-volume, high acuity ED. Recently a patient suffered from CVA and she had the task of administering a high potent medication TPA. Brianna not only took the time with the patient but with the family to explain everything she was doing and why she was doing it, a task that even those most experienced nurses have difficulty with within a high-stress situation. She stayed with the patient and family well past her shift to give reports to the accepting nurse so they would know how far the patient had improved and she held their hand and cheered them along with all of their improvements. I truly believe that it was Brianna's care that caused such a significant improvement in the patient’s condition because she looked at the patient as someone's loved one and a person and not someone she was just assigned to. Her time, commitment, and dedication to the patient and their family made a huge impression on me and for that reason, I am nominating her for The DAISY Award.
