If it wasn't for Nurse Matthew and his persistence about why the low reading for her O2, she could have had a stroke or even worse.

I am the POA for Healthcare for my friend who has Parkinson's. I took her to the ER Sunday morning because she was very weak from not taking her meds, eating, or drinking. Nurse Matthew was assigned as our nurse. When he tried to take her O2 sats, he couldn't get a proper reading and this concerned him even though she wasn't showing any signs of respiratory distress, no pain, no headache, and good capillary refill. Because her other labs were fine, the ER staff was going to discharge us. But Nurse Matthew was still concerned about the O2 levels.

He first had a chest x-ray done. Then he had the pulmonary department come down and do an arterial blood gas which showed her O2 level to be at 66...extremely low! They then did a CT scan which showed many blood clots in her lungs. Just think what could have happened if we would have gone home and one of those clots broke loose! If it wasn't for Nurse Matthew and his persistence about why the low reading for her O2, she could have had a stroke or even worse. We are forever grateful for the thoroughness and professionalism and caring that Nurse Matthew showed us that morning. She is recovering from these blood clots because of Nurse Matthew. Thank you, Nurse Matthew. You are a credit to your profession.
