Mia sat in the room with him and held his hand through the ENTIRE hour that he was on the trial.
Mia took excellent care of my father for seven days straight in CCU. After a particularly precarious first couple of weeks in a different hospital, my father was transferred to Hurley and Mia was his nurse. Throughout the time she was with him, she was extremely attentive but a specific moment stuck out in my mind. He was very close to approaching the time for him to receive a trach, so every spontaneous breathing trial that was done was extremely important. After failing the two previous days, Mia sat in the room with him and held his hand through the ENTIRE hour that he was on the trial. Honestly, if it wasn’t for her patience and attentiveness, and encouragement during the breathing trial, he definitely would have required a trach and I cannot say he would be doing as well as he is now.

In addition to my father, she also managed to keep my mother’s anxiety at ease which I can assure you is an extremely difficult task to achieve and honestly can seem more difficult than taking care of my father. After not sleeping for over a month because of the dismal care he received in another institution, I was able to sleep again and Mia always went out of her way to keep me updated.

I will forever be grateful to her for the care she provided and I truly believe it has altered his outcome from a potentially negative one to him now getting discharged in a few days and able to care for himself with minimal assistance.
