It was nice to see a smile on our daughter’s face and I am thankful there is a nurse who helps her feel safe.
Our daughter had a catastrophic cancer relapse in November. Paula has been our care manager since 2019. Our daughter’s PTSD is so severe that placing an IV turned into a 5 day hospital stay after a PTSD event. Paula has always taken the whole child into consideration when making a plan of care. Our daughter has a port, but accessing it is triggering. So, Paula came up with the solution of placing a central line that would eliminate the need for numerous needle sticks as well as the trauma of having the port accessed. It is ideas like these that set her apart.

Yesterday at day hospital, Paula rounded on us and our daughter asked Paula to paint with her. Without hesitation, Paula pulled up a chair and played with our daughter. It was nice to see a smile on our daughter’s face and I am thankful there is a nurse who helps her feel safe. Paula always returns my call or email and answers my many questions. We are lucky to have Paula Fisher on our care team.

Paula tailors the education to meet my needs. I am a nurse and my husband has a Ph.D. in basic medical sciences. So, instead of just saying that labs are within normal limits, she will explain at times in detail why the labs look great and trends to expect from each particular chemotherapy agent. Paula makes me feel heard. When our daughter relapsed, she sent me an email right away to let me know she heard and then came to see us in the hospital to say hello. We are from out of town. Recently, we made a trip to the Gulf Coast so our daughter could see her cousins. Paula connected with the hospital in town and had orders in for labs (as well as a paper copy in my hand) so we could go to the clinic at the hospital out of town. She made the process easy for me so we could enjoy our vacation.
