Sydney treated me with respect, compassion, and as a human rather than just another patient assignment. I felt safe and trusted her with both my life and the life of my child.
Sydney was an Extraordinary Nurse! When she started her shift, I was in tears, stressed, and scared about the decisions I had to make for me and my baby as I prepared for labor. I was shocked by how compassionate and caring Sydney was towards me, and I actually felt like she was on my side, caring and advocating for me. We chatted and laughed during some of the not-so-fun contractions, and she made the whole process of labor easy and rewarding. I was so happy that she stayed past her shift to help clean me up and the baby. It touched me very deeply. She even came to visit me the next night in postpartum! I LOVED her, and I just want her to be recognized for doing such an outstanding job, and for going the extra mile for someone who was basically a stranger!

Sydney was one of my nurses during my induction at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center. Having never had a child before, I was feeling an array of emotions from being completely excited to utterly terrified of what was to come. Not only did Sydney explain every step of the process to me, but stayed with me when I became suddenly tearful or scared of what my baby was doing on the monitor. She made sure I was comfortable and also made sure to check on my equally anxious husband. Sydney treated me with respect, compassion, and as a human rather than just another patient assignment. I felt safe and trusted her with both my life and the life of my child.
When things turned hairy towards the end of the shift, Sydney acted calmly and quickly to prevent complications knowing when to advocate for my needs and call on the provider quickly. She knew when to reign in the team to help out knowing that my baby and I needed quick intervention (and let's not forget that this was happening close to shift change!). But she did so with confidence, without transferring additional anxiety to me, and while explaining every step of the way so I would know exactly what she was doing to help me.
As if that was not enough, she came back the next night to see me off to the postpartum unit and told me she was proud of what I had accomplished and excited to meet my baby. My only disappointment was that she wasn't able to take care of me in postpartum. She truly strikes me as a great human being who loves her job and patient care. Sydney if you're reading this, I made it home safe with my baby girl and we owe it to you! Thank you for being you!
