Jenny immediately offered to take them home and to have breakfast in our cafeteria.
My patient had a cardioversion performed. After the procedure was finished, I began to assist another nurse getting her patient ready for a procedure. The operator announced visitors to report to the visitor parking lot and gave a description of 3 cars and license plate numbers. My patient’s husband had to leave because one of the vehicles was his. He came back in after being gone for a while. He told us his car was involved in an accident in the visitor parking lot. My patient got so upset and began crying. After consoling her, she was recovered from the procedure and I began the discharge process. I went to Jenny, my manager, and asked what we could do for my patient and husband after I told her what happened to their car. She immediately offered to take them home and to have breakfast in our cafeteria. I returned to my patient and when I walked into her room, she said “I don’t know how we are going to get home?” I told her my manager offered to take them home. She got dressed and she and her husband wanted to get out and finish dealing with their car and getting it towed. My manager took them home. Jenny had no hesitation when I asked what we could offer. This was one problem this very kind couple didn’t have to worry about.
