Kaitlyn made this experience feel not so hard and I am grateful to her for that.
Kaitlyn did a wonderful job taking care of my son on the day of his procedure. She did everything she could to make sure we were comfortable as a family. She started by meeting us in the lobby and bringing us back to the unit. She had cartoons playing on the TV before we arrived. She spoke to my son at a level that he would understand and really took her time with him. She answered questions that I didn't even know that I had. She was kind, caring, knowledgeable, and made the patient experience an exceptional one. She introduced everyone to us as they came into the room and made sure that my son was comfortable with everyone in the room.

Once my son left for his procedure, Kaitlyn and Child Life stayed to talk with me and offer me encouraging words until my transporter came to bring me to the OR waiting room. After the procedure, Kaitlyn met us back in the room and had a clear and concise hand-off from the recovery room nurse. She was very clear with her directions for us, instructions for us and from the recovery room, and made me feel confident and comfortable with our care for my son once we were at home.

To our surprise, a handwritten note arrived at our house the day after the procedure. The patient experience from start to finish was A+. It's incredibly hard to be a patient when you are used to being the provider and even harder to be the parent of the patient. I never once doubted that my son was in good hands. Kaitlyn made this experience feel not so hard and I am grateful to her for that. I know that we are all experiencing staffing shortages throughout the network but if I didn't work, I never would have known this. None of these shortages were obvious to us as the patient. I know we were not her only patients that day, but she certainly made us feel like we were her only patients. Kudos to her.
