I have been privileged to work beside Paola for many night shifts. She is truly an asset to the labor & delivery and postpartum team. She is motivated to help patients achieve the outcome they desire for the delivery of their child. Countless mothers have been guided by Paola throughout their labor and postpartum course.

Paola’s calmness in a field that can be chaotic is a huge benefit for patients. She has gone to classes to promote vaginal delivery and routinely is using her skills on patients, even if it requires much physical effort and lots of patient trust. She has been successful in changing women’s labor courses for the better. You never know what position your patient will be in if Paola is taking care of them! Whoever gets Paola as their nurse for the night is always in good hands.

Recently I had a difficult cesarean section in the middle of the night which took longer than expected as there were complications. Paola was the only nurse in the operating room for the majority of the case. She was asked to go above and beyond the normal duties of a nurse during a cesarean section. She did it with calmness, efficiency, and never hesitated even when asked to do things outside her normal realm, or asked to do three things at once! Paola helped the surgery go smoothly to optimize patient outcome and thankfully it was achieved. I truly cannot thank her enough for going above the call of duty in a stressful time with such grace, both supporting the operating room team along with the patient and her partner. She never got flustered and without her presence, the operating room would not have been run as smoothly as it did.

Paola routinely looks back on situations to debrief to see how we can improve the outcome in the future, always looking for improvement. She is a team player that I am thankful to work alongside. Paola puts her best effort forward night after night when coming into labor and delivery. She always has a smile on her face, a great attitude, and never says no to a challenge.
