Ms. Brenda is an extraordinary leader. Not a typical leader who is always the main spotlight but the behind-the-scenes kind of leader. To me, she deserves this award because she always empowers her nurses/midwives to shine, to grow, to be excellent. She is selfless. She doesn't talk about herself but is instead proud to talk about her team. Always her nurses and midwives are the stars. She doesn't talk about herself and her achievements but she always showcases how her nurses excel and how they grow in their careers. One time I attended one of her webinars and she presented the shared governance. I was amazed how she flipped the pyramid where she, the CNO, is at the bottom and the nurses/midwives are at the topmost. That means she allows her nurses/midwives to play the biggest part of the decision making and she is at the bottom, pushing them to be confident, to be leaders, to be decision-makers, and to excel. There is so much more to mention on how she supports the nurses/midwives in her own smooth way. Let me end this story by saying, the success of each DAEH nurse/midwife starts with her.
