I am writing to recognize the extraordinary compassion, professionalism, and clinical expertise of the Nurse who attended to my husband during a recent visit to Toledo ProMedica Hospital. At 92 years of age, my husband and I were understandably anxious and nervous about the Watchman procedure my husband was about to undergo. From the very start, this nurse was adeptly attuned to not only my husband's situation but mine as well. She established a genuine, caring connection with both of us by listening to and learning about our distress and anxieties, attending to our immediate needs, and tailoring her overall care to us as individuals. For example, she took particular note of the devotional scapular and handmade rosary worn by my husband. While explaining the item's deeply religious significance to other caregivers in the room, she removed them gently and promised to look after them while he underwent surgery. That simple observant act alone calmed my husband's fear and demonstrated her exceptional ability to see him who he is and the life he leads. Before being discharged, my husband was struggling with self-catheterization, a humbling experience. Ever mindful of their patients, Ma-Nemia was there to assist and did so with absolute dignity and respect. She did not have to do this, and would probably say that she was 'Just doing her job," but we know that this is the "Extraordinary in her ordinary". We so much appreciate the therapeutic care of Ma-Nemia. She exhibited the attuning, wondering, following, and holding principle of therapeutic practice. We felt secure, accepted, and held with dignity during our entire visit stay thanks to Ma-Nemia. Please see that she is aware of how she positively touched our lives.
