Krista did everything perfectly. She was in the room when I needed her, but not when we were focusing on family. She was attentive but not overbearing, she was comforting but not sappy.
I would like to thank Krista for being my mother's nurse on the day that she passed away. As a nurse myself, I know this is a difficult day for all involved. In this case, my mom was in the ICU, and in the 12 hours Krista cared for my mom, we went from trying to save her life to trying to make her as comfortable as possible as she passed. Krista did everything perfectly. She was in the room when I needed her, but not when we were focusing on family. She was attentive but not overbearing, she was comforting but not sappy. She was generous with medication and didn't make me decide on when to give it. It also has to be very difficult to have me as the daughter of this patient. She took my cues and didn't need me to explain in detail what I wanted for my mom and our family. Just when I thought she couldn't do a better job, she had to deal with the “crazy family request". My mom had been ill for years, but acutely sick for only 24 hours...so somehow this snuck up on us. After my mom passed, my sister had a very hard time leaving her as we had not left my mom alone in many years. I had a friend who was a nurse at the bedside with us and we asked that she be able to stay with my mom as Krista performed post mortem care. My sister felt more comfortable leaving with a family friend whom she knew present. Our friend said that the care Krista gave my mom after her passing was unreal. She called me when she left and said “she is one outstanding nurse". I know that our job is to care for patients, but in this case, Krista cared for our whole family. I wish there was more I could do to thank her as I will NEVER forget that day and I will NEVER forget the nurse who cared for her as she passed away.
