Darwin has been a Cath Lab nurse at Lakewood Regional Medical Center since 2009. Lakewood Cath Lab has had several changes and challenges since the beginning of the pandemic. Darwin has always been dedicated and devoted to the Cath Lab patients at Lakewood but since the pandemic, he has really stepped up and taken on the leadership role as the relief charge nurse and the manager. Darwin works tirelessly to ensure the department is staffed adequately and has on-call coverage. A role that has demands 24/7 which is beyond the expectation of his role as a Cath Lab nurse. Darwin is truly dedicated to the success of the department and always attempts to find resolutions to difficult and challenging situations. Darwin was the first RN to volunteer to cross-train in the Interventional Radiology Department and volunteered to take call for the Interventional Radiology Department when staffing was a challenge. His quiet and objective professional demeanor conveys confidence in his patients and his colleagues. Darwin does the work no one else wants to do or is willing to do. Even if the physician is reluctant to talk to his patient, he will reassuringly do so in a caring and compassionate manner. Darwin is very supportive of the leadership team at Lakewood Regional and assists with departmental goals such as coronary stent compliance and monitoring of STEMI diversion hours. Darwin is exceptional as a nurse, leader, and more so as a human being. It is an honor to call him a colleague.
