We met outside the E.R. and Christi took me back to the recovery rooms. She flushed my tubing and I immediately felt relief from the terrible pain I was in.
I had a nephrostomy tube placed that started giving me trouble, so I had the bag changed. After changing the bag, I noticed it was not draining at all. I called the number on my paperwork and was told the call nurse would call me back. This person called me back and told me my options were to go back to the emergency room if I could not wait until Monday because nobody is in the office on the weekend. If I go to the E.R., they can call the team in, she paused for a second, then she said let’s try something different, I will meet you outside the E.R. There’s no reason for you to sit in the E.R. among all the COVID patients for hours if it’s something I can fix. We met outside the E.R. and she took me back to the recovery rooms. She flushed my tubing and I immediately felt relief from the terrible pain I was in. Urine started filling the bag. She taught me about emptying the bag, clots in the tube, checking the connections, and dressing. I was on my way home within 5 minutes of arriving. She didn’t have to do any of that, she didn’t have to come to the hospital on her time off. She also protected me from COVID in the E.R. and saved me from hours of suffering in pain. She went above and beyond, was positive and competent, and deserves to be recognized she was my hero that night.
