I have been a cardiac patient at Palos Hospital for about the last 10 years. In January 2012, when I was 46 years old I had endocarditis, which caused me to have open-heart surgery for a valve replacement and valve repair. I would like to recognize Nicole E. who was my nurse for 2 days. I was brought by ambulance to the ER in December. This was my second trip to the hospital in the past 3 weeks due to a recent diagnosis of SVT. On the day of my ablation, I met Nicole. From the moment I had met her I felt like I have known her my entire life. This was very important to me because I have anxiety. I felt like she always had my back, and she was easy to approach with concerns and questions. Nicole took the time to listen to me and answer any questions that my wife and I had. She took the time to explain things to us and even made time for some casual conversation. In addition, Nicole had a very positive, sincere, and uplifting attitude. In a world where COVID is running rampant and hospitals are overworked and understaffed, she was always pleasant and willing to listen, answer questions, page doctors, and check vitals. After my ablation, my blood pressure was low and Nicole monitored my blood pressure every half hour. When she saw that I could tolerate liquids, she made sure to have a dinner tray sent up before the kitchen closed. She was attentive, professional, and accommodating while I rested after my procedure. In some casual conversation, she mentioned that things in the world would get better. She didn't know when, but she said they will get better. Those simple words touched me and they are words I will never forget. Thank you for taking the time to acknowledge her. She truly deserves it.
