Sheena is a true angel of a nurse, someone who is kind, caring, and knowledgeable without measure. She gives her all to patients.
I would like to recognize Sheena for her care of my mom who has Alzheimer's, needs wound care, and is sometimes in excruciating pain. I am truly grateful from the bottom of my heart. Yesterday, Sheena was in fact, not my mom's assigned nurse, however, she was most helpful at several critical times. She checked in regarding my mom's overall well-being with a friendly, energetic, positive attitude on a number of occasions.
I pressed the call button for assistance with having my mom use the bathroom. Sheena had her attempt to use the bedpan and was so careful with her wound area on her bottom and with her rash area in the front. This was not fruitful and my mom asked to sit on the toilet. She is ambulatory, yet has difficulty using a walker as the demands for her motor planning are too much for her current cognitive functioning level. So, she helped to walk with my mom to the bathroom. She has a "no-problem get it done disposition" and was evident throughout the entire bathroom care which probably took nearly half an hour from start to finish. She was an ongoing encourager to my mom throughout the task, remarking "good job" showing her how to follow directions when didn't understand, acting as if nothing was a big deal (when my mom urinated on the floor, as she did not realize she was no longer on the toilet) and keeping a sense of humor evident in a very tough situation. When returning my mom to the bed, she cared for her needs, putting antibiotic cream on her wound area, cream on her rash area, changing her bed pad, questioned whether my mom may also have a yeast infection on her chart, and gave her a fresh start. This all took a lot of work, especially for a nurse who was not assigned to this patient. Sheena is a true angel of a nurse, someone who is kind, caring, and knowledgeable without measure. She gives her all to patients.
Fast forward to today - how happy I was when I exited the fifth-floor elevator to a greeting of "Hi, I'm your mom's nurse today. Sheena is/was instrumental in helping my mom's wound healing to start, moving in a positive direction, she is now on a catheter (so she will not be sitting in wetness) not in a diaper so that healing can increase, has the pain meds she needs and is on a better path of comfort. Sheena is an excellent, top-notch nurse, someone who forms a real connection with her patients in an upbeat way. She listens well and acts on her patient’s behalf to help them.
