I have worked with Becky for 13 years. She is an excellent, accomplished nurse with a very wide knowledge base. Becky is kind, loving, and empathetic to EVERY single patient that I have ever seen her work with. In addition, she is the same with all her colleagues whether that be a nurse, tech, radiologist, anesthesiologist, child life, environmental services … seriously, anyone. She truly embodies "Extraordinary Every Time." She always goes above and beyond staying late to help, doing things that need to be done without being asked, and helping anywhere help is needed. She does the jobs that no one else wants to do. And she does it all with a smile. The kids love her, and she loves every kid. No exceptions. People often remark about what a genuinely nice person Becky is. 

Recently, Becky and I were trying to finish up our day when I realized something was not working. I was having trouble getting images onto the PACS system so that the Radiologist could read the scan. I finally realized that it was a registration or patient account issue of some kind. This was going to cause a delay in patient care, and it was my issue to deal with because there is only one technologist at this location. I had to move on to scan my next patient, while trying to figure out what the error was and how to resolve it. It was also late and the last patient of the day. We were running behind schedule. It was very stressful. I was trying to deal with two patients and their parents at the same time. Becky saw how stressed out I was, and, of course, rose to the occasion and started making phone calls to try and get ahold of someone who could help. Keep in mind, this was a radiology paperwork issue that Becky has no knowledge of, and certainly had no obligation to get involved with, but she asked what I needed to be done and got to work on it. I nearly cried because I felt so overwhelmed with trying to give proper attention to my current patient and trying to fix the computer issues with the previous patient. Becky went above and beyond as she usually does, doing whatever it is that she needs to do, because she cares about every patient (and colleague!) and is 100% committed to doing the right thing 100% of the time. She didn’t have to stay an hour late to help me, but she did because she truly cares. And that is only one small example.

There are so many other instances that I could go on about, but this one tipped the scales, and I felt led to recognize her. I will go as far as to say that Becky cares more about others than she cares about herself. She embodies the definition of LOVE WILL. Children’s Mercy is a better place because of Becky Gerke.
