Matt has taken the time to interact with the patient in such a compassionate way that it has helped keep the patient calm.
There has been a long-term mental health patient who has been in the ED for over 10 days. The patient has the mindset of a toddler which makes taking care of the patient a little more complex. Matt has been so kind, caring, patient, and compassionate while taking care of this patient. Matt has taken the time to interact with the patient in such a compassionate way that it has helped keep the patient calm and has kept the patient from code purpling. On his day off, Matt bought some string cheese and brought it into the patient because the patient had been asking for some. The other day when Matt was in our mental health station he made sure the patient got a shower and we think it was his first shower since he had been in the ED. Matt made sure this got done and that the patient was all cleaned up and his room got cleaned. These words do not begin to relay the amazing, kind, and compassionate care Matt has demonstrated to this patient.
