Holly has a big heart and she shares that greatness with everyone on a daily basis.
I am simply a floor technician so I may not be directly involved with a patient but I do get the opportunity to watch the entire process of caring for a patient all the way from transport to walking by the patient rooms and admiring the medical skills in action. I nominated Holly from the ICU for the remarkable connection she draws from not only the patients but from the family/visitors as well.
Holly is known throughout the staff in that unit for being the nurse that always takes the time to get to know and form a relationship with her patients and their visitors. She has such a great personality and is a very warm-spirited person to work with. To be specific I primarily float in the areas where Holly frequently is located but one individual incident is the exact reason I am nominating her today.
I was walking out of the ICU heading to the opposite wing when I slowly walked by the last occupied ICU room. There was a family in distress as they had clearly just been given terrible news. Holly was there to comfort the family not only emotionally but physically. Hugs were being exchanged and Holly was doing her best to remain strong for the family but she also endured losing her patient. The family was thanking her for all she has done and she exited the room. I am now located outside the ICU where Holly comes in hysterically crying and obviously very emotional. I even heard her dealing with this heartbreaking event inside the staff lounge. This made me emotional because I know that if I was that family I would feel comforted knowing that the person who’s been taking care of my family member is also hurt by the situation. Holly has a big heart and she shares that greatness with everyone on a daily basis. She connects with her patients and their families; she is a role model staff member.
