My husband was admitted after suffering a massive stroke. He got excellent care in the ED with early TPA and expert medical care from the doctor with clot retrieval. The most critical part of his recovery was during those early hours post procedures and TPA. It was during this time that we were blessed with Paige. Paige was at his bedside constantly evaluating him and encouraging him to remain still to prevent complications. My husband is not the easiest person to keep inactive and he can be a bit overbearing. Paige knew just how to care for his personality. Her ability to mix humor and joy with her assessments quickly formed a bond with him. We both watched her apply pressure to his arm. You could see the strain in her shoulders and the fatigue on her face, but she kept up the pressure for over 25 minutes until there wasn’t a risk of bleeding. She called me and kept me comfortable enough to go home and sleep a few hours. I returned to find that my husband came through this ordeal with zero deficits thanks to a quick response by EMS and the care of his dedicated ICU nurse. Thank you, Paige, and Sacred Heart for giving me my husband back in such good condition — perhaps even better than before.
