Samrawit's rapport with her patients and development of trust and connection even in a short shift was remarkable to observe.
I first met Samrawit on the Adult Psychiatry Unit of the Northwest campus. I identified her powerful sense of “calm” immediately. When we had report she was confident and always knew her patients extremely well for handoff. She stood out to me! Her reporting was concise, to the point, and you felt as an oncoming RN that you got the whole patient’s picture. She embodied a partnership in her handoff and success for patient care when giving you the recent update from her assigned patient load. As an oncoming RN she often told other RNs who had multiple things to hand off for one reason to another…"no problem I can do that!” I often heard this in her clinical care throughout the day to help other colleagues on the floor as well, often volunteering to help. She was always willing to go the extra mile. There wasn’t anything I ever witnessed that was too much to manage for her, she is a strong RN.

Her rapport with her patients and development of trust and connection even in a short shift was remarkable to observe. She exhibits extraordinary acts of compassion daily that often make a difference with her patient care, peers, and overall APU team. I can see her kind and caring intentions when Samrawit works. She is investigatory in her practice when putting the whole patient first. She is a teacher and, often helps numerous nursing students, nursing practicum rotations, and mentoring new RNs to the floor. She is highly respected by her peers and patients.

I take considerable pride in recognizing Samrawit for this award as she embodies a leader. She has often helped me in my Charge RN role as a new Charge RN on a new team with a warm welcome and a high team spirit that continues to this day. Samrawit Ajema is a true DAISY Nurse.
