McKenzie really listened to our child when they wanted to tell her about something that was on their mind or wanted to show her something.
Due to our son's diagnosis, we have spent quite a few nights at the hospital. Some days are tougher than others. When we arrived on the floor, this nurse greeted us with remembrance, even though they hadn't seen us since we were first admitted in July of last year. They immediately set about making sure that our child had everything they needed and made them as comfortable as possible. This nurse really listened to our child when they wanted to tell them about something that was on their mind or wanted to show them something. When I walked to pick my child up their favorite breakfast, this nurse helped my child to the window and stayed with them to watch me through the big windows at the end of the hall. At the end of our stay, when our child was ready to be home, this nurse was proactive with getting everything lined up so that we could leave as quickly as possible. While we were waiting for discharge, our child told this nurse that they were ready to go home, but they did enjoy visiting their friends (the nurses) during their stay in the hospital. After the nurse left my child said, "you know .. the nurses make good therapists." This nurse truly has a kind heart of gold and works hard to show care and compassion for their patients. We were thankful to have them as our day shift nurse for all 3 days of our stay, and they made our visit much more bearable with their compassionate care and willingness to help with the small things that often make the biggest difference.
