Lexi holds hands. Lexi stays with the patients and ensures them that they are brave, they are strong, and they are not alone in some of the scariest hours of their lives.
This nomination is not based on one situation. Nominating Lexi for this DAISY is based on the continued dedication I watch her display every single day she comes to work. Lexi is a “new” nurse, however, the compassion and empathy she pours into her practice makes it seem that she has been a nurse for years. She was meant for this career and, if anything, the struggle this pandemic has created only amplified her ability to be the best nurse she can be for her patients. It’s not easy to hold the hands of loved ones or patients while they die. Some even avoid that situation at all costs. Lexi does not. She advocates for her patients and family members on a whole other level, doing anything she can to give her patients the best care or most dignified and peaceful death anyone could ever ask for. Lexi holds hands. Lexi stays with the patients and ensures them that they are brave, they are strong, and they are not alone in some of the scariest hours of their lives. Lexi is the light in this dark.
