My mom was at OSU for about a month after suffering a stroke; she was eventually transferred to the Dodd Rehab Hospital. This happened sooner than we expected, so she spent her first day there with no clothes for her physical therapy, as she had been wearing the hospital gowns. Mom's nurse that day, Carrie, offered to go to a nearby store for her to pick up some outfits so she could be comfortable for therapy until we brought her clothes up. From what Mom explained, Carrie had an 8 or 12-hour turnaround between shifts but went between shifts on her own time to get the clothes. I have had 8 and 12-hour turnarounds between shifts and know how rough they are, especially with having a family. My time off, regardless of the amount between shifts, is very valuable to me, and I am sure that is the same for most. For someone who just met my mom to offer to do something they certainly didn't have to do is beyond amazing and speaks so highly of their character. I never got to meet Carrie, but Mom spoke so highly of her, and this act of kindness speaks so highly of her as a nurse and how much she cares about her patients. Carrie went above and beyond and deserves recognition for doing so. I will never forget this act of kindness, and I know my mom won't, either.
