Ariana demonstrates her professionalism in her actions, interactions, and demeanor. For every IV access, Ariana performs she takes into account a patient’s length of stay, medication being infused, the number of previous IVs the patient has had, listens to the patient’s requests, and the patient’s nurse recommendation. In doing all of this, she potentially lessens the number of IV sticks the patient will need in the future. Patients speak highly of her and often request her if another IV is needed. She is able to confidently and professionally advocate for her patients with doctors, PAs, NPs, and RNs. Over time she has developed a rapport with them, and her suggestions are taken into consideration as she is very knowledgeable and very respectful of others.

Ariana is able to confidently and expertly deal with our diverse patient population, putting even our most anxious patients at ease with her mild and confident manner Ariana is always willing to teach nurses how to best start IVs. If her assistance is requested and she determines the patient is a good person to teach another RN on how to start an IV, she will locate the nurse and encourage them, with her assistance, to start the IV, thus not only teaching the RN but also in building his/her confidence. She encourages questions, and offers tips willingly, and always in a professional and encouraging manner. Ariana sends out monthly “IV Tips and Tricks” emails as she has been a member of the Nursing Experience Council for 2 years. This not only benefits the nurses who read these emails but the IV team as well. She also created a PowerPoint thus standardizing our teaching process for new orientees.

Just before the beginning of the COVID epidemic Ariana worked on 3F and was selected to join the IV Team. Her start with the IV team would be delayed as she was reassigned to the Critical Care Units. She never complained about her reassignment or her delayed start with the IV team. She took the opportunity to learn as much as she could and to this day shares the knowledge she gained during that time. Ariana is a team member that can be relied on. She readily makes changes to the schedule to accommodate others, teaches orientation classes when asked, assists in accessing difficult IVs when called upon, and gives objective opinions when sought. She is able to work independently and efficiently, thus decreasing patient wait times for vascular access as she does not need to work with a buddy. She often offers her assistance when she sees another person has calls pending.

Ariana is cool under pressure. She never is overwhelmed by how busy we are. She is able to quickly prioritize what needs to be done. She is also respectful of her colleagues' time. She thoroughly looks through a patients' charts ensuring there aren’t any contraindications for PICC placement and ensuring that a PICC is the best option for the patient. She often assists our senior IV nurse in updating policies. She readily restocks our supplies and gets rid of empty boxes, and is mindful of keeping our work area neat and clean.

Ariana seeks answers to questions by engaging the entire team. When she doesn’t know the answer to something, she researches the answer by looking into our guidelines, policies and researching best practices, and sharing what she comes across. She readily implements what she learns and does not lean on a previous practice if she finds a better way of performing a task. Ariana has had a big and positive impact on a small team. We respect her work ethic, positivity, teamwork, patience, demeanor, and the way she interacts with all the members of the patient care team. She is a true DAISY Nurse.
