Pam has a wealth of knowledge regarding nephrology patients and her advisement is instrumental in implementing new systems and processes for our unit.
Pam has served patients at this organization for 34 years. She is an exemplary nurse and role model. I first met Pam in 2009 when I was hired as a staff nurse on 7T. I immediately recognized her knowledge and kindness when I first met her. I will never forget one particular shift I was working on 7T. It was on a Saturday and we had no acute care techs scheduled to work that shift. While making rounds with the Nephrology hospitalist, Pam noticed how busy we were and that we had no help. She told us when she completed her rounds she would return to 7 and help get vital signs on our patients. I doubt she even remembers this but her willingness to help our unit when we were in need sticks with me to this day.
Flash-forward about a decade and I now have the pleasure to work alongside Pam as her nurse manager. I can’t put into words how much she has assisted me with transitioning into my new role. She has a wealth of knowledge regarding nephrology patients and her advisement is instrumental in implementing new systems and processes for our unit. Pam has a very close relationship with the nursing and ancillary staff as well as the physicians.
A recent example of her dedication to her patients is she came into work on a Saturday that she was scheduled to be off on PTO. This particular patient is a peritoneal dialysis patient who was admitted with complications regarding her PD catheter and also COVID. This patient was taken to surgery on Friday and Pam was aware the patient was having complications and not doing well. She came in on Saturday morning without being asked or prompted to assess the patient and ensure her catheter looked ok and was properly functioning.
Pam arrives at the hospital one to two hours early most days and is typically here until the day shift leaves. Some evenings she thinks she is just about to leave and a doctor calls requesting her to round with them, of course, she obliges with a smile. I could go on and on about how wonderful she is but it would take all day. She is a huge asset to this organization and we are blessed to have her, I am blessed to have her. Pam deserves to be recognized for everything she does, for all of us.
