Julie is a nurse practitioner in the ED Observation Unit. She always goes above and beyond to help out. No task is too big or too small for her. She is regularly seen transporting patients, starting IVs, helping change patients, or just being an empathetical listener for the patients or staff.

She has always had a special place in her heart for the homeless or mental health population. She always goes above and beyond to help out. Over the years I have watched her perform random acts of kindness that solidified her as a caring compassionate nurse. She goes out of her way to help the people of the community. I've seen her give people clothing items, shoes, tents, sleeping bags, and money for food just trying to help them out.

Recently she did something that foreshadows anything I could have imagined. A particular patient has come to the ED for years multiple times a week. He is known by all and loved by most. He had his problems and demons, but he was always appreciative and needed help. Unfortunately, he passed away in an accident. Knowing that no family was involved and that he had no guardian or anyone to care for him after death.

Julie asked the medical examiner to claim his body. She did this out of the goodness of her heart and paid to have him cremated and plans to have a tree planted of his ashes in the future. Why would she do this? Julie did this because she is an amazing human being with a huge heart. She is a nurse through and through. She is what inspires others to be compassionate and caring to others. I hope to be half the nurse that Julie has been in her career.
