The wife told me that she felt sure this visit and Sallie’s actions kept her husband out of the hospital.
Sallie has actually retired from her full-time RN homecare position to enjoy being involved with her community and spending more time with her family. She remained in a PRN status and helped out during the COVID vaccination pods because of her desire to play her part in the COVID battle. She has also offered days to work to help us during our staffing crisis. I have always considered her the “face of Smyth Regional Home Care!” Sallie is a mentor to all her teammates and a faith-driven foundation for homecare services. Sallie is the nurse we would have orient and/or precept new team members and is a wealth of knowledge with her 44 years of work history with SCCH, 26 being in homecare. Sallie always goes above and beyond for her team and her patients. This week we had a patient’s wife call with concerns about her husband and Sallie was called to the rescue. Even though she wasn’t seeing patients that day, she stepped up and said, "what can I do to help?" Not only did she go right out to see the patient, but she also called in a mobile chest x-ray to check for pneumonia and persistently called the physician, until she got an antibiotic prescribed. The wife told me that she felt sure this visit and Sallie’s actions kept her husband out of the hospital. This was only one of the many compliments I get involving Sallie. She is loved by everyone!
