We came to TCH with our beautiful 4-year-old boy so he could have heart surgery. They completed heart surgery but couldn't find the issue they needed to fix. They now thought nothing was wrong. The next day they wanted to explore his heart more so he went under sedation again. After they found the problem and recommended open-heart surgery again the following day. Our son has an incredibly rare genetic disorder that limits his language. Marie is always quick in action with sweet words for him. She was the only nurse during our stay that was able to make him comfortable. She advocated for him as if he was her own. She went above and beyond in his care and supporting us. When she was our nurse everything was perfectly sanitized, she limited unnecessary disturbances, and she had vast knowledge of the different care our son needed. Marie would direct others for his post-op care and thoroughly explained to other nurses his needs. She always included me in his care and allowed me to feel as if I was helping rather than a burden. She was perfection across the board. She was the only one who was able to effectively minimize his pain and nausea so he could sleep. I am so grateful that we were blessed with her. She deserves this Award for having impressive knowledge in her field, combined with an amazing bedside manner, and for being quick and efficient without comprising kindness and compassion. She is incredible.
