It takes a special individual to choose the career path of nursing, but it also takes a special nurse to choose the specialty of becoming an ER nurse. ER Nursing is not always glorious and there are difficult shifts that you have to push through, but in order to get to happy and rewarding experiences, you have to walk through the storm at times. Sometimes the storm does not always have happy endings which everyone in healthcare at some point can say is true. Knowing that you have a co-worker who is not only intelligent but has that compassion about them makes coming to work that much more rewarding. Several years ago a nurse came to our facility after re-locating and decided to take a leap and dive into the nursing world of Emergency Room Nursing. Her nursing background was not ER but just talking and visiting with her we knew that she was someone special and would be a tremendous asset to not only our hospital but our Burleson ER Family… and we were right.

A recent event that shows the compassionate value that this nurse exemplifies was the night that an obstetric resuscitation came into our Emergency Room and we had not one but two patients that we were trying to revive. When this nurse was contacted to see if she could help provide hands she didn’t hesitate. She immediately found childcare for her children and came to the hospital to help her second family with the crisis at hand. She provided the knowledge, experience, compassion, and teamwork that was needed for her co-workers during that difficult time. Possessing all of these amazing qualities is what makes this nurse unique and we are honored to have her as a part of our Burleson Hospital Team. Kristi Splawn is a true DAISY Nurse.
