Keep up the amazing work, Mary and I hope you know how amazing you are
Mary identified that I was having a very hard time processing everything after having had an emergency C-section. She knew I was in a bad headspace and not doing well mentally. She immediately knew I needed extra support and attention to help me get back into a better place and deal with all the emotions I was having. She was a huge help with getting my head wrapped around what happened and how my baby was actually doing very well. She was able to help me figure out the best way to breastfeed him because, without her help, I would have given up. She was our nurse for 3 days. When I was there, I looked forward to her coming back on shift at 7 am because I knew I was in good hands. My husband and I loved her so much that we named her Mother Mary because she was so knowledgeable about everything and always had answers for us. Nurses also always seemed to seek her out to ask questions because she is a wealth of knowledge. I would not be where I am right now mentally if it was not for her. I am sure she has helped countless other women through this same journey. Keep up the amazing work, Mary and I hope you know how amazing you are.

We cannot thank Mary enough for getting us through the first 2 days as new parents! We were thrilled to be new parents and had read many websites and talked to friends about what to expect but we felt blindsided at the birth of our little one. After a completely restless night, Mary came into our room on the first full day on the mother/baby ward and immediately started sharing so many pro-tips that made our time in the hospital and our transition home so much easier. Her practical solutions were backed by both invaluable personal experience from her work on the wards and as a mother and the latest research. On top of the many extremely useful tips, she is a genuinely good person who wanted to hear more about us and share her story with us too. My wife and I have both worked in many different roles throughout the hospital- medical students, researchers, house staff physicians on many different wards, and now my wife as an attending- and have been blessed to be surrounded by so many excellent nurses who are eager to share their knowledge and compassion with others. Even with all of the excellent nurses we work with at UCMC, Mary stood above the rest. Thank you.
