Roxanne took the time to rouse me out of my depression and had me looking at the sunny side of being there as a short interim stay to recovery.
During my recent stay for a heart attack, I was in the PCU for a week. I often had Ms. Garza as my nurse. She was outstanding for various reasons. She was a very caring nurse who not only attended to my physical needs but also my mental well-being. I recall one particular day I was having a very rough time mentally with being in the hospital. She took the time to rouse me out of my depression and had me looking at the sunny side of being there as a short interim stay to recovery. She would post goals on the whiteboard every morning and thoroughly explain them to me. As an example, we talked about salt and I told her I put salt on everything. She explained how salt was bad for me. I told her I wasn’t sure how I would stop using it. She suggested an alternative being lemon pepper. I have not used salt since leaving the hospital and use lemon pepper instead. She took the time each day at change of shift to introduce the oncoming nurse which was very comforting to me. She always spoke very highly of her colleagues and of the hospital. She frequently stopped to speak with my wife during my wife’s daily visits, reassuring her and asking if she had any questions. Although Nurse Garza was aware of my wife’s medical background, she recognized this was a difficult time for my wife and that my wife also needed care. She consistently went above and beyond her duties to ensure my recovery.
