A couple of weeks ago my daughter had a seizure out of nowhere. She wasn't feeling well that morning and so stayed home with Dad while I went to work in the East ICU. Never having had a seizure before, my husband brought her into the ED and I met them down there. She was still post ictal and wet with urine and my husband was silently panicking. I was scared, too, of course. Matt was our nurse and had such a calm demeanor that he made everything seem like it would be okay. I am a nurse, too, so I was anticipating all of the testing and possible interventions. I was so nervous when he came to put in an IV that he would have to poke her multiple times and she would cry and cry. Nope. He came in, poked once, and got it quickly and smoothly. She hardly cried at all. I was extremely impressed. I happened to know that that was a crazier than usual day in the ED. Multiple ICU patients were boarding down there and the big wigs were down there meeting about staffing. But Matt never seemed to show that stress. He was calm, professional, and even made time to bring my daughter an ice bucket with washcloths for her head and a popsicle. He is a really great nurse and I want to say thank you so much for taking care of not only my daughter but of us as well.
