Julie took the patient outside to have lunch with her family and spend time with her daughter. It made the patient’s day!
Julie went above and beyond the call of duty as my nurse. She showed compassion and care helping me to wash my hair and get cleaned up after several days of bed rest. But what really stands out to me is her care for me when my health started declining over the weekend. I experienced excruciating pain in my sacrum that radiated down my legs. Julie was persistent in contacting the doctor to figure out pain relief for me. The next day was even scarier for me. My husband noticed my face twitching and he alerted Julie. She immediately sprang into action and helped my husband to advocate for me. The doctor was insisting it was just low blood sugar, but Julie was so supportive to my husband in getting the doctor to do a head scan and she also convinced the doctor to place me on the step-down floor for care because she knew I needed closer monitoring than what she could provide on the floor. I truly believe she helped save my life because the closer monitoring I received in the step-down care ended up getting me transferred to Neuro ICU care. Julie is a phenomenal nurse, and I am so grateful she was my nurse that weekend because she was willing to challenge the doctor and help my husband to advocate for me.

After learning that a patient has a 10-month-old baby girl at home, Julie got approval from the medical team to arrange an outdoor picnic with the patient, the patient’s family, and daughter outside the hospital. Julie took the patient outside to have lunch with her family and spend time with her daughter. It made the patient’s day! Julie truly positively impacted the patient’s day and encouraged the patient to keep fighting so she would soon be back home with her baby girl.
