It was during a night shift and the weather outside was windy and stormy. Lindsey had a Spanish speaking pediatric patient and their family that she was helping to take care of. The patient's condition declined and the patient needed to be transferred to a pediatric facility that was in Atlanta. Lindsey called to try to get either a helicopter or a critical care ambulance for transport. She was denied both due to the weather and lack of availability. Over the course of an hour, the patient continued to decline.

Lindsey decided that there was no way this patient was not going to get transported, so she called EMS and told them that she would ride with the patient herself to the accepting facility so the care the patient needed would be provided in route. Lindsey called the receiving hospital to be sure everything and everyone that would be needed for the care of this patient was ready. During this process, she remained calm and continued to focus on her patient's care and needs.

Not many nurses would have done this. It takes an exceptional nurse to go to this extreme to make sure that their patient receives the care they need in situations like this. Lindsey continues to show that patient care is very important when it comes to her job. I hope other nurses will be inspired by her to go the extra mile.
