Rosie was so overwhelmed with all that going on with her other patients but she still took the time out of all she had to do, to hold a dying man's hand in his final moments of life.
Rosie immediately impressed everyone on the unit with her intelligence, kindness, and passion. I found out that Rosie had several job offers when she finished nursing school but chose to work on the COVID unit because she felt she could make the most difference here. If Rosie is working and there is someone struggling, she is the first to volunteer to help. Rosie shows endless patience and kindness with the individuals she cares for as well as her co-workers. She is refreshingly genuine and effortlessly hard-working. No request is too small for her to give it her full attention when it comes to her patient's needs. The last time Rosie worked she had an extremely heavy team. Many patients were declining rapidly and many things needed her immediate attention. In the midst of all of this, a patient who was altered and oriented called and said he wanted to change his code status to comfort measures and he was ready to give up, that he was exhausted. Rosie knew that as soon as the patient was removed from his BiPap that he wouldn't last much longer. Rosie spoke to the physician, got the orders placed for comfort measures, and stayed with the patient for about an hour, holding his hand because she didn't want him to die alone. Rosie was so overwhelmed with all that going on with her other patients but she still took the time out of all she had to do, to hold a dying man's hand in his final moments of life. If that doesn't demonstrate the true heart of a nurse, I don't know what does. Rosie has had such a challenging first year as a nurse and many people would be discouraged but Rosie preservers. She is brave, focused, and driven to do this meaningful work and it is an honor to work with her.
