Of all the nurses I have worked with or been cared for by over these decades none has impressed me more than Grace.
If I may, I would first like to give some information on my background and experience. I am a retired M.D. Cardiologist who practiced in academic medicine for decades, most recently as a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. I also have had Stage 4 Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma for 7 years and have been hospitalized for many months for treatment of that. So my experience with nurses has been both as a colleague and a patient. In these capacities, I have obviously interacted with hundreds of nurses. I recently underwent "Outpatient" Surgery for bilateral inguinal hernias at the CCIRH. There were complications that required me to be admitted to the hospital after my surgery. I was cared for by Nurse Foley-Barouh while in the hospital. Of all the nurses I have worked with or been cared for by over these decades none has impressed me more than Grace. I was at times in very severe pain and also required treatment with some special nursing techniques to help relieve this pain and promote my recovery and eventual discharge from the hospital. I also required the use of the extensive medical fund of knowledge that she demonstrated and her unusually caring manner, compassion, and professionalism. In a profession that has many dedicated women and men who have chosen this life of service to people in their time of need, Grace stands out as a special example. She is a credit to her profession and the CCIRH is very fortunate to have her on its staff.
