Juliette took charge of the situation and single-handedly coordinated the care of this patient's pet.
In my opinion, Juliette is an exemplary nurse in so many ways. Her kind gentle nature is tempered by a savvy instinct which makes her a star in the Emergency Department. On just her ordinary days she is a stellar nurse: efficient, attentive, detailed, patient, quick-witted, and perpetually positive. She often does little tasks (such as extra paperwork, helping out fellow nurses, and gifts for the cleanup crew) that no one sees. However, recently, Juliette went 'above and beyond', even for some of her standards! There was a sick, elderly patient in the ED who required a transfer to Tulsa. The patient was distraught and even considered refusing his emergent transfer secondary to his concern for a pet at home. The patient went on to speak about his very close relationship with his pet, and because he lives alone, this pet was his only connection and his best friend in the whole world. He didn't want to leave his pet alone, even if it meant risking his own health. This is where Juliette comes in...She took charge of the situation and single-handedly coordinated the care of this patient's pet. There were multiple conversations, much troubleshooting, and quite a bit of creative thinking to get this pet care coordinated so the patient could get the medical treatment needed. Juliette tackled this complicated situation with an ease that we have come to recognize is so typical of her. She is a diamond in the ED and we are lucky to have her.
