The emergency department has gone through a tremendous amount of stress and burden through the ongoing pandemic, the recent surge in gun violence, staff turnover, transitioning care models through the implementation of Forward Flow boarding, and numerous other events and circumstances. Through all of this, Leighann is present and active on the unit ensuring staff has the physical and emotional support to provide optimal care in suboptimal times. She leads by example often ditching her white coat to help out clinically. She is compassionate, understanding, approachable, and welcoming.

More importantly, she is accessible and truly has an open door policy. When tragic cases occur Leighann always calls to check on the department and will always come in from home without hesitation no matter the time of day or night to assist in any way possible. Words do not exist to sufficiently exemplify the job Leighann does to ensure that not only the department is running efficiently but that staff are supported and heard. Leighann embodies all of the qualities that demonstrate true leadership in the emergency department.
